A four year-old Rottweiler called Terrie has given birth to a staggering 18 puppies, breaking the previous record of 13 and by a long way! At 12.50pm on Sunday 26th July Terrie went into labour, assisted by her owner, Nicolette Morris from Bedfordshire who acted as an emergency midwife.

Despite the six stone dog looking huge before birth, Nicolette was beyond surprised at the number of puppies being born, she is quoted as saying, "I began to wonder if she'd ever stop"! Sadly, one of the puppies was stillborn and another died two days after birth, but the remaining 16, ten females and 6 males are doing very well and are growing quickly.

A litter of this size is rare; however Terrie does not quite break the world-record. This was set in 2005 by a Neapolitan Mastiff in Cambridgeshire, who gave birth to an amazing 24 puppies!
